Where did the waltz come from in opera, and to what does it owe its dazzling success in operetta? During the workshop, we’ll explore the history of this dance and listen to pieces composed in its rhythm, as well as those inspired by it – there will be musical riddles and historical anecdotes.

The Soloists of the Polish Royal Opera will perform operatic and operetta arias, including works by Ludomir Różycki and Charles Gounod, setting the mood and introducing a theme that always appears wherever the waltz is heard: love. Led by a pair of professional dancers, we’ll learn simple steps and figures, and dance the waltz together on the stage of the Royal Theatre. We’ll also find out which geometric figure the waltz is most closely related to.
