Ladies and Gentlemen,
The last chords of Gioachino Rossini’s The Barber of Seville marked the end of the 6th Festival of the Polish Royal Opera – Opera Buffa. We would like to thank you for your trust and participation in all of the over a hundred events organized by our institution in the artistic season 2022/2023.
We warmly remember the solemn performance of the GREAT MASS IN C MINOR by W.A. Mozart, which inaugurated the season. Even greater emotions accompanied the jubilee concert in October, when, on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of our institution, the Soloists, the Vocal Ensemble, the Chamber Choir, and the Orchestra of the Polish Royal Opera conducted by Dawid Runtz performed one of the greatest musical masterpieces – SYMPHONY NO. 2 IN B-FLAT MAJOR OP. 52 “LOBGESANG” by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. A particularly important date turned out to be this year’s National Flag Day and the OPERA PICNIC WITH NIEPODLEGŁA organized on this occasion, when the Artists had the opportunity to perform in the place where the new building of our institution will be constructed in the future. The second stage of the competition announced on the 30th of December 2022 is underway, aiming to develop an architectural concept for the new theater of the Polish Royal Opera.
Meanwhile, outstanding works interpreted by our excellent musicians resounded in the historic interiors of the Old Orangery and the Palace on the Isle, the Royal Łazienki Museum, the Royal Castle in Warsaw, the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio, the National Philharmonic, and beautiful churches around the capital. At the same time, as part of the OPERA ON TOUR project so important for our institution, our Artists performed in Sanok, Radziejowice, Opinogóra, Łańcut and Ożarów. A specially prepared CONCERT OF POLISH MUSIC was heard even at the Zagreb Philharmonic.
We are proud that, apart from the festivals – the autumn one bringing back the works of C. Monteverdi and the summer one devoted to opera buffa – we have staged four exceptional premieres over the last eleven months. The repertoire of the Opera has been enriched by the 20th-century dark drama THE TURN OF THE SCREW by Benjamin Britten, the performance OLD POLISH CAROLS reminiscent of folk Christmas customs, the magical version of The Magic Flute by Mozart adapted for children, and the classic comical opera L’ITALIANA IN ALGIERI by G. Rossini. What’s more, both the famous and the still too rarely performed works filled numerous programs of solo, chamber, and symphonic concerts.
We would like to express our deepest appreciation to all the Artists and Employees of our institution responsible for organizing and preparing performances and concerts. We are also grateful to the benefactors who made our artistic plans possible: the PZU Group – the Patron of the Polish Royal Opera, as well as our Partners and Media Patrons.
Today, we would already like to invite you to the performances and concerts planned for the next season. On the 7th of September, the 3rd BAROQUE FESTIVAL OF THE POLISH ROYAL OPERA – HAENDEL will begin. Apart from the masterpieces of Baroque music, this year’s autumn will resound with the music of Viennese masters. Tickets for upcoming events are available in the tab REPERTOIRE and on the kicket.com website.
See you at the Polish Royal Opera in the new season 2023/2024!
