For centuries, composers have been imitating the sounds of nature, transcribing birdsong or the chirping of crickets for instruments and voices. Nature – especially in spring, as it awakens to life – has always been a true treasure trove of inspiration. The song of a nightingale or the clucking of a hen – which sound do you think is more inspiring? During the workshops, you’ll listen to a variety of pieces, ranging from Renaissance and Baroque repertoires to traditional music. You’ll also guess which animal’ sounds they imitate. While animals often appear in these compositions as symbols (a puzzle we invite parents to solve), for a child’s imagination, they remain delightful protagonists in musical worlds.
Forest animals make an appearance in one of the most famous operas of all time – The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – so they’ll certainly have a place in our workshops as well. Though silent, they will speak to us in another language: through gestures. You’ll have the chance to give them a voice yourselves and might even sing some meows set to music by Baroque composer Adriano Banchieri. The workshops will be an opportunity for collective bleating, buzzing, and hooting, as well as immersing yourself in the soothing sounds of historical instruments like the oboe, violin, and lute. And bird-inspired melodies for soprano and mezzo-soprano will be performed by soloists of the Polish Royal Opera: Julita Mirosławska and Dorota Lachowicz.
The workshops are intended for children aged 6 and over.
