Iwona Handzlik graduated from Państwowa Szkoła Muzyczna im. Stanisława Moniuszki in Bielsko-Biała in piano in 1999. She continued at the Music Academy in Katowice, in solo singing. In 2004, she further perfected her vocal skills as a Socrates-Erasmus grant holder in Lübeck (Germany). As early as in her third year of study, she started cooperating with Teatr Muzyczny in Lublin, where she played Hanna in Stanisław Moniuszko’s The Haunted Manor.
In 2006-2011, she was soloist of the Wrocław Opera, singing Musetta in G. Puccini’s La Bohème, Gilda in G. Verdi’s Rigoletto, Adele in J. Strauss’s The Bat, Adina in G. Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love, Olympia in J. Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann, a Flowermaiden in R. Wagner’s Parsifal, Nannetta in G. Verdi’s Falstaff, Papagena in W.A. Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Oscar in G. Verdi’s A Masked Ball.
In 2006, she debuted at The Grand Theatre – National Opera, impersonating Adele during the New Year’s Eve concert. Also there, during the 2016/2017 season, she played Papagena in W.A. Mozart’s The Magic Flute in the famous staging of the Berlin Komische Oper directed by Barrie Kosky. The same year, she made her stage debut at the Opera na Zamku in Szczecin, singing Oscar from A Masked Ball, and in the following season, Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the Wrocław Opera. She had also cooperated with The Cracow Opera, the Silesian Opera in Bytom, Zabrze Philharmonic and Sudety Philharmonic in Wałbrzych. She has given concerts in Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Canada, Thailand, Australia and Italy.
During the 2018/2019 season, she impersonated Hanna in three premiere performances of the Haunted Manor produced by the Polish Royal Opera, and played Despina in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, and in the following season, she debuted as Rosina in the The Barber of Seville.
