The genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart reveals itself both in opera works and instrumental music. Brilliantly painted psychological portraits of characters in dramatic works find their musical expression in arias. During the event, we will hear the voices of the heroines of the three operas being the result of Mozart’s fruitful collaboration with Lorenzo da Ponte: the resolute Susanna from The Marriage of Figaro, the schemer Despina from Così fan tutte and the naive Zerlina from Don Giovanni. Taken out of their dramatic context, the arias arranged for voice with the accompaniment of a string quartet do not lose their specific colour, additionally acquiring a refined social character – invariably entertaining and touching.
Between the vocal pieces, we will hear the short, expressive Adagio in C minor KV 546 and the String Quartet in G major dedicated to Joseph Haydn. It is worth remembering that the encounter with the string quartets of the oldest of the Viennese masters was one of Mozart’s most influential artistic experiences. The young genius, however, does not simply imitate Haydn in his work but transforms this inspiration into an individual, fully original style.
