Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Polish Royal Opera is fully committed to joining #lightforbelarus. On 12 and 13 September, all cultural institutions and other public buildings will be illuminated with the national colours of the Belarusian historical flag. We want to express solidarity with our neighbours, who are now bravely and perseveringly fighting for freedom and democracy. Partners of the Polish Royal Opera who provide room in their historical facilities for our concerts and performances – The Royal Łazienki Museum and the Royal Castle in Warsaw – have also joined the initiative. You can also expect symbols of support on the Polish Royal Opera’s social media sites.
It is also worth noting that #lightforbelarus is quite special to Poles, as this year marks the 40th anniversary of the events of August 1980 and the beginning of Solidarity in Poland. The anniversary provokes reflection about our own course of historic events, which became incentive for systemic changes. That difficult time also brought us many acts of solidarity from all over the world. Today, we can reciprocate and show solidarity with the protesters in Belarus, believing that their courage and determination will contribute to the victory of democracy.
