NIGHT OF MUSEUMS / CHAMBER CONCERTS

17 May 2025, Saturday
Time 19:00
The Royal Theatre in the Royal Łazienki Museum in Warsaw

FREE ADMISSION

The Polish Royal Opera is once again joining in the Night of Museums – a unique celebration of culture and art. On this special evening, the charming interior of the Old Orangery in Warsaw’s Royal Łazienki Park will be filled with diverse music performed by outstanding soloists of the Polish Royal Opera, accompanied on the piano by Dagmara Dudzińska.

The first of five concerts will be devoted to Polish vocal lyricism. Love songs by Fryderyk Chopin, Mieczysław Karłowicz, Stanisław Niewiadomski, and Jan Gall will transport the audience into a world of heartfelt emotions, longing glances, and sorrowful sighs. During the second concert, we will hear selected songs by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who masterfully harmonizes outstanding poetry with music that pulses in its rhythm. The heartfelt serenade by Franz Schubert will also be performed, along with two songs from Robert Schumann’s Myrthen cycle, which was a wedding gift from the composer to his beloved Clara Wieck.

The third concert of the evening will be devoted to the master of comic opera – Gioacchino Rossini. Fragments from the famous Barber of Seville and Duetto buffo di due gatti – attributed to the master of comic opera, though likely arranged by the English composer Robert Lucas Pearsall (based on fragments of Rossini’s works, among others) will certainly put the audience in a cheerful mood. In the next concert, Mozart’s music will return – this time in the form of arias and duets from the great operas of the Viennese master: La finta giardiniera, Cosi fan tutte, Don Giovanni, and Le nozze di Figaro. The final performance will resound with excerpts from operas by 19th-century French composers, moving with their musical depth and enchanting with dramatic artistry. The program will feature the famous Habanera from the opera Carmen, the Bacchic praise of wine sung by the main character of the opera Hamlet by Ambroise Thomas, the seductive aria from the opera Samson et Dalila, and fragments of the dramatic work Les contes d’Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach.
