“The Old Town Square in Warsaw. Winter. December 24, 1820. Passersby carry Christmas parcels and trees. Among them hurries a little girl selling flowers that no one buys.”
This picturesque scene opens Krakatuk, an operatic fairy tale by Tadeusz Szeligowski with a libretto by Krystyna Niżyńska. Based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, the work was created in the 1950s and has not been staged since then. The story, suspended between dream and reality, invites us into a world of childhood imagination: “There is a land open to all, where there are no quarrels or strife. Whoever is young, brave, and persistent will find the way there, for it is the land of fairy tales.”
During the workshops, we will return for a while to the story of little Hania, her uncle Fantazjusz, and the magical world symbolized by the golden nut – Krakatuk. Gathered around the Christmas tree on the stage of the Royal Theatre, we will also create holiday decorations and instruments on which we will play together: tuk-tuk-tuk!
The workshops are intended for children aged 5 and older.
