This current \u2013 whose origins some trace to military traditions and others to the musical practice of court ensembles \u2013 fully blossomed in the Classical era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mozart\u2019s sublime understanding of instrumental capabilities and his sensitivity to their timbre brought about an evolution of the serenade genre in his work. Starting from pieces of a light character, the Viennese genius sought to develop a form rich in expression and sonority, reminiscent of his outstanding symphonic music. The&nbsp;<em>Serenade<\/em>&nbsp;in B-flat major, written for thirteen wind instruments, is one of the finest examples of this. The title&nbsp;<em>Gran Partita<\/em>, although not given by Mozart himself, perfectly conveys the character and structure of the composition. The seven-movement cycle is one of Mozart\u2019s longest non-vocal works.
