But in Rossini&#8217;s opera, there is no fairy godmother, enchanted carriage, or glass slipper that fits only one unique foot in the entire kingdom. In the libretto, prepared by Jacopo Ferretti based on earlier texts by Charles-Guillaume \u00c9tienne and Francesco Fiorini, the sage Alidoro appears instead of the fairy, the evil stepmother is replaced by an unjust stepfather, and instead of the slipper, there is a bracelet, thanks to which the prince recognizes his bride. What remains unchanged, however, is the triumph of Cinderella&#8217;s modesty and charm over the greed and vanity of her stepsisters, as well as the unconditional kindness of the main character, who in the happy ending forgives her former tormentors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rossini, telling a fairy-tale story half-jokingly, half-seriously, does not shy away from virtuosity, setting ambitious tasks for all the soloists. Since the world premiere, which took place during the carnival of 1817 at the Teatro Valle in Rome, a myriad of singers took on the main roles, because after the cold reception of the first performance, as was the case with <em>The Barber of Seville<\/em>, each subsequent performance was met with great appreciation. Soon, the opera conquered stages not only in Italy, but also throughout Europe, and interest in this title continues to this day.
