Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (1809-1847) – composer, pianist and conductor – is one of the most distinguished symphonists of his time. It is to this artist, called a “romantic classicist” due to his outstanding ability to combine truly Mozartian formal precision with nineteenth-century expressiveness, that we owe the return of the forgotten music of the great Johann Sebastian Bach to the world stages. Mendelssohn’s fascination with the music of bygone eras is creatively reflected in his works, just as his numerous journeys around Europe, from which he drew musical and spiritual inspirations. The brilliant overture of The Hebrides<\/em> tells supernatural tales and describes the mysterious landscapes that the composer encountered during his stay in Scotland. On the other hand, in the Italian Symphony No.4, one can find the cheerful atmosphere of sunny Italy, which Mendelssohn visited in 1830. Long perfected and reworked, it did not premiere during the lifetime of the prematurely deceased composer, yet it made a great impression on the audience of that time. Inspired by Italian folklore, this masterful composition enjoys undying admiration to this day.<\/p>\n

Between the works of the German “child prodigy,” we will hear Fryderyk Chopin’s Piano Concerto in E minor<\/em> (1810-1849) – completed by the 20-year-old composer in 1830 before leaving Warsaw. The concerto in the brilliant<\/em> style was first loved by the Warsaw audience, and less than two years later – by the Parisian audience as well. Fran\u00e7ois-Joseph F\u00e9tis, the editor of the Revue Musicale, wrote about it: “There is soul in these melodies, there is fantasy in these passages, and there is originality everywhere.” The masterpiece of the piano virtuoso and Polish national bard will be interpreted by the finalist of the 18th Chopin Competition – Kamil Pacholc. He will be accompanied by the Orchestra of the Polish Royal Opera conducted by David Runtz.<\/p>\n
