The beautiful interiors of the Palace on the Isle will be filled with the music of such masters as Buxtehude, Telemann, Graun, and B\u00f6ddecker. The top representatives of various generations of baroque composers have left behind a delightful and moving body of work.<\/p>\n

Dietrich Buxtehude was an organist at St. Mary’s Church in L\u00fcbeck for almost forty years. Although his position did not require composing vocal music, his legacy includes approximately 120 works for voice with instrumental accompaniment. One of them is the cantata O dulcis Jesu<\/em>, where the composer perfectly renders the love-filled religious text by a variety of musical means, combining the lyrics with the sweet sound of a soprano accompanied by strings.<\/p>\n

The self-taught composer Georg Philipp Telemann also left behind a rich legacy. In addition to great oratorio and cantata forms, his catalogue of works includes about 3,000 instrumental pieces – orchestral, chamber and solo compositions. Telemann drew inspiration from, among others, the Polish, French and Italian tradition and also implemented innovative musical solutions, creating an individual style and gaining universal recognition. This was evidenced not only by the popularity of his works but also by the high remuneration he received from his clients.<\/p>\n

Telemann’s works were successfully performed by, among others, Johann Gottlieb Graun when he served as bandmaster at the court of Karol August, Prince of Waldeck and Piedmont. Graun himself was also a recognized composer, appreciated in particular for his instrumental works. An excellent example of the lightness and artistry of his style is, for example, the Trio<\/em> for oboe d’amore, violin and basso continuo, which will be heard during today’s concert.<\/p>\n
