The event is co-organized by the Royal Castle in Warsaw.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The six-part masterpiece by Johann Sebastian Bach was written for Christmas in 1734, which is confirmed by the composer’s autograph on the manuscript surviving to this day. Rediscovered in the 19th century, today the piece belongs to the canonical repertoire performed during Advent and Christmas. In Bach’s time, the individual cantatas that made up the oratorio resounded individually during the celebrations of three consecutive Christmas days, on New Year’s Day, on the Sunday following it, and on the feast of Epiphany. Today, the musical story of the birth of Christ is most often performed during two evenings, and that is how it will be presented by the Artists of the Polish Royal Opera.<\/p>\n

The concert will feature the last three cantatas from the famous oratorio. The fourth one reflects on the story of the circumcision and naming of Jesus with the beautiful aria using the echo effect Fl\u00f6\u00dft mein Heiland, fl\u00f6\u00dft dein Namen<\/em>. The next two cantatas depict the journey of the Magi from the East and the presentation of the gifts to the Child. Led by the Star of Bethlehem, they head towards the newborn Light whose ultimate emanation is the final chorus (Nun seid ihr wohl gerochen an eurer Feinde Schar<\/em>), in which the vocal ensemble with accompanying trumpets, oboes and strings solemnly announces God’s triumph over the actions of his enemies.<\/p>\n
