This stanza finishing the Pie\u015bni Kalliopy S\u0142owe\u0144skiej na tera\u017aniejsze pod Byczyn\u0105 zwyci\u0119stwo<\/em> by Krzysztof Klabon to the lyrics by Stanis\u0142aw Grochowski excellently depicts the great victory of the Polish army led by hetman Jan Zamoyski in 1588. The National Independence Day brings the perfect opportunity to commemorate the greatest events in the history of the Republic of Poland, especially those which were also made famous in songs.<\/p>\n

The concert will also feature the oldest of the Polish anthems \u2013 Bogurodzica<\/em> and Gaude<\/em> Mater Polonia<\/em> \u2013 hymns sung by the Polish knighthood when they were squaring up with the enemy. Those melodies could have also accompanied Polish forces preparing for the battle of Byczyna, in which they achieved a great victory over archduke Maximillian Habsburg\u2019s forces. The victory was recorded and made famous by Krzysztof Klabon, one of the most distinguished musicians at the royal court, in a series of six compositions. The programme will also feature charming dances from Jan of Lublin\u2019s Tablatures, which, similarly to other songs taking up subjects of political events, resounded during official court ceremonies. Compositions will be performed and interpreted by outstanding artists specializing in early music and will be played on replicas of period instruments, which will surely bring about the atmosphere of those past times.<\/p>\n

The 16th<\/sup> century was also the heyday of religious songs. Among many of them, this genre brought us beautiful psalms by Miko\u0142aj Gom\u00f3\u0142ka to the lyrics of Jan Kochanowski. And the prayer character of Sebastian Klonowic\u2019s Piosnka uczyniona czasu powietrza, kiedy by\u0142o interregnum w roku pa\u0144skim 1572<\/em>, in which one begs for an end to pandemic, seems particularly relevant today.<\/p>\n
