The concert is part of the 16th<\/sup> Goldberg Festival.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The world-famous Polish countertenor Jakub J\u00f3zef Orli\u0144ski will perform selected arias from the rich Baroque repertoire together with the Period Instrument Ensemble of the Polish Royal Opera. We will hear excerpts from the famous works of Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Friedrich Haendel as well as compositions by a less known, but truly interesting composer – Johann Valentin Meder.<\/p>\n

The concert will open with the solo cantata Widerstehe doch der Sunde<\/em>, written by Bach during his ministry in Weimar to a text by the German poet Georg Christian Lehms. The message of the piece is the struggle with sin and temptation, reflected in the music by dissonant chords that draw the listeners’ attention. Before the break, we will also hear a moving aria expressing the longing for death from the cantata Ich Habe Genug<\/em> BWV 82 and a soothing opening fragment from the cantata BWV 170. Between the vocal pieces, the period instruments ensemble will perform one of Handel’s concertos from the famous Opus 6.<\/p>\n

In the second part of the concert, we will hear two compositions by Johann Valentin Meder – the kapellmeister<\/em> of St. Mary’s Church in Gda\u0144sk in the years 1687-1699. The program will include moving arias from Haendel’s operas based on Antique themes – Tolomeo, re di Egitto<\/em>, Rodelinda<\/em>, Agrippina<\/em> and Partenope<\/em>.<\/p>\n
