In the days of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, music for wind instruments took on various forms. This trend, whose sources may lie either in the military tradition or in the musical practice of court ensembles, fully flourished in the era of classicism. Particular sensitivity to the sound of aerophones can be heard clearly in the works of Mozart in the genre of Harmoniemusik<\/em> – recreational music intended for outdoor performance. Its simplicity combined with the subtlety of colour variety, it delights with lightness.<\/p>\n

One of the most outstanding compositions of this genre is the Serenade in C minor<\/em> KV 388, originally intended for 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons and 2 horns. In a letter to his father of July 27, 1782, Mozart informs him that he had to complete this Nacht Musique<\/em> quickly – today, however, it is difficult to say what circumstance forced him to hurry. It is certain, though, that the last serenade of the master from Vienna breaks the usual patterns and amazes with its dramatic nature.<\/p>\n

The ambiguous mood of the Serenade in C minor<\/em>, which is so surprising for music of informal nature, corresponds in an interesting way with the atmosphere of the Piano<\/em> Sonata in A minor<\/em>, KV 310, with its dark sounds, full of expression and inner anxiety. The serenade, sonata and the famous overture to The Magic Flute<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>opening the concert program will resound in interesting arrangements for a wind quintet, which may allow you to appreciate the “recreational” potential of these well-known and appreciated compositions.<\/p>\n
