EVENT AS PART OF THE FESTIVAL IN TEMPORE REGUM – Music of the Time of Kings<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Music life flourished in the Commonwealth during the reign of the Vasa dynasty. Italian virtuosi and composers, brought in to royal ensembles, significantly improved the quality of music performed both during secular celebrations, as well as religious ones. It is possible that the nonpareil Miko\u0142aj Ziele\u0144ski, kapellmeister of primate Wojciech Baranowski, had thus the opportunity to get acquainted with the works of Italian masters without leaving Poland. The artists directly related to the court of Sigismund III Vasa also included the eminent Italian composer of sacred music \u2013 Giovanni Francesco Anerio, and a violinist and composer – Adam Jarz\u0119bski, who also shaped his music artistry in Italy, among other places.<\/p>\n

Having succeeded to the throne, king Vladislav IV appointed Marco Scacchi to the position of maestro di capella<\/em>, and Bart\u0142omiej P\u0119kiel as the royal vice-kapellmeister and organist. Although Kaspar F\u00f6rster Junior became famous at the royal court for being an outstanding singer, he also left behind a number of interesting compositions. In fact, the high level of music performed by the ensembles of the Polish Vasas radiated all over Poland. The royal court became the centre of musical education, and the excellent repertoire created in the name of rulers would reach both Polish and foreign courts and monasteries.<\/p>\n
