EVENT AS PART OF THE FESTIVAL IN TEMPORE REGUM – Music of the Time of Kings<\/p>\n

Festival IN TEMPORE REGUM. Music of the Time of Kings<\/em> aims to popularize what is still considered little known and insufficiently appreciated \u2013 the music created and performed in the Commonwealth of the 17th<\/sup> and 18th<\/sup> century. The incredible richness of the Polish baroque manifests itself in many works created at the royal and noble courts as well as in manuscripts stored in monastic libraries.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, very few biographies of religious music artists of the time have survived to this day. Such is the case of Szymon Ferdynand Lechleitner, who worked in the Commonwealth territory in the first half of the 18th<\/sup> century. His works, however, have survived in many centres (incl. Jesuit, Piarist, Benedictine and Cistercian monastic orders), which proves the great popularity of this composer\u2019s music.<\/p>\n

More is known about another composer, already recognized by his contemporaries \u2013 a Piarist \u2013 father Damian Stachowicz (1658-1699). His Litaniae de Beata Maria Virgine<\/em> is a composition probably written for the purpose of church services held in the Rzesz\u00f3w monastic college. The abundant use of musical-rhetorical figures proves Stachowicz\u2019s excellent education and great talent.<\/p>\n

Jacek Szczurowski, an 18th<\/sup> century artist, is considered to be one of the most prolific Jesuit composers, although only few of his works have survived to this day. Monastic inventories show that \u2013 contrary to Stachowicz, who only created religious music pieces \u2013 Jacek Szczurowski also composed instrumental music. Features of the galant style that characterize Missa ex D \u2013 <\/em>the crown of the concert \u2013 indicate that the composition comes from the composer\u2019s mature artistic work.<\/p>\n
