The subject of the composition is the pain caused by the necessary separation from a friend. However, in the end some hope appears amidst the grief heard in the first part, and the final aria encourages us to bravely face that which is new and unknown.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the wedding cantata <i>Weichet nur, betr\u00fcbte Schatten<\/i>\u00a0BWV 202 is filled with joy and delight. It will be performed as the concert finale. In terms of performers, the modest requirements (solo soprano accompanied only by: oboe, violin, and basso continuo) suggest that the cantata was written for a wedding of townspeople or noblemen. Its humorous and dancing character certainly would not be appropriate for a duke\u2019s court. We cannot rule out that Bach wrote this piece for his own marriage to Anna Magdalena in 1721. The wonderful music ideally reflects the literary meaning. The initial winter, sinister and dark, is transformed into a blossoming spring landscape full of life.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<i>Ouverture g-moll<\/i>, entered into the <i>Bach Werke Verzeichnis\u00a0<\/i>catalogue under the number 1070, will be played between the two cantatas. There are, however, certain doubts as to its author. Our main source \u2013 the 1753 copy by Christian Friedrich Penzel \u2013 is signed only \u201cSig. Bach\u201d. Some researchers then tend to attribute authorship to Wilhelm Friedmann, Bach\u2019s eldest son.
