\u201c[…] I watched with great pleasure all those people hopping happily to the music of my Figaro<\/em>, transformed into pleasant contradances and allemandes. Here, they talk about nothing else but Figaro<\/em>. Figaro<\/em> is played, sung, hummed, and whistled everywhere. No other opera arouses so much interest as Figaro<\/em>, nothing but Figaro<\/em>. For me, it is really a great honour!\u201d \u2013 wrote Mozart from Prague in his letter dated 15 January 1787 addressed to his friend Gottfried von Jacquin in Vienna. We know, moreover, that the Prague premiere of Don Giovanni<\/em> was similarly warmly received by the audience.<\/p>\n

Mozart\u2019s operas are full of parts that sound wonderfully also outside the scenic context. Here we can certainly include the signature arias and duets of the main protagonists, as Mozart was famous for his skill of shaping psychological portraits of his characters with music. Even those who do not know the libretto will notice the diversity of feelings and emotions captured in Susanna\u2019s, Figaro\u2019s, or Count Almaviva\u2019s parts. Intriguing are the many faces of the cunning seducer Don Giovanni. Romantic dialogues also always fit the character of a person. How could we remain indifferent to the light and joyful, but so moving, \u201cbird\u201d duet of Papageno and Papagena?<\/p>\n

Although the selected arias and duets will be performed without their usual opera entourage, the listener will surely experience their harmony and universal beauty, as well as a whole range of contexts and meanings, especially as the singers are the top-class artists Olga Pasiecznik and Robert Gierlach accompanied by the musicians of the Orchestra of the Polish Royal Opera. Chamber arrangements, prepared by Adam Mazurek and Rafa\u0142 K\u0142oczko, are extremely well suited to the rich tradition of how Mozart\u2019s works have been presented \u2013 since the times of Mozart himself, as we learn from the cited letter.<\/p>\n
