Bass. Wojtek Gierlach graduated with honours Magna cum Laude from the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, the class of Prof. Kazimierz Pustelak.<\/p>\n
He made his debut at the Warsaw Chamber Opera, performing the title role in G. F. Handel\u2019s Imeneo<\/em> conducted by W\u0142adys\u0142aw K\u0142osiewicz and directed by Ryszard Peryt. The artist frequently performed in the Polish National Opera in Warsaw: as Colline in La boheme <\/em>\u00a0by G. Puccini, Duce Alfonso in Lucrezia Borgia<\/em> by G. Donizetti, Raimondo in Dionizetti\u2019s Lucia di Lammermoor <\/em>, Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro<\/em> by W. A. Mozart, Escamillo in Carmen<\/em>by G. Bizet, Gessler in Wilhelm Tell <\/em>by G. Rossini, Zbigniew in Straszny Dw\u00f3r <\/em>\u00a0by S. Moniuszko, Talbot in Maria Stuart<\/em> by G. Donizetti and Hermes in Eros i Psyche<\/em> by L. R\u00f3\u017cycki. He\u2019s also appeared as Don Basilio (The Barber of Seville<\/em> by G. Rossini) in the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Oroveso (Norma <\/em>\u00a0by V. Bellini) in Teatro National S\u00e3o Carlos, Lisbon, Assur (Semiramide<\/em> by G. Rossini) in the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen, Alidoro (G. Rossini\u2019s Cinderella<\/em>) during the Festival d\u2019Aix-en-Provence, Melisso (Alcina<\/em> by G. F. Handel) in Op\u00e9ra National de Bordeaux, Orbazzano (Tancred <\/em>\u00a0by G. Rossini) in Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, Leporello (Don Giovanni <\/em>by W. A. Mozart) in the NICO Opera House in Cape Town and as Count Rodolfo (La sonnambula<\/em> by V. Bellini) in Theater St.Gallen.<\/p>\n In 2015, he made his debut in the Danish National Opera and the Welsh National Opera in Cardiff as Sir Giorgio in V. Bellini\u2019s I puritani<\/em> directed by C. Rizzi. He\u2019s won general acclaim for his performances as Melisso in Alcina<\/em>together with J. DiDonato and the Baroque orchestra The English Concert, directed by H. Bicket in the New York’s Carnegie Hall, as well as in Th\u00e9\u00e2tre des Champs \u00c9lys\u00e9es in Paris, and Theater an der Wien in Vienna. In the season 2017\/2018 Gierlach made his debut in the Royal Opera at Covent Garden in London as Priest in Shostakovich\u2019s Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District <\/em>directed by Antonio Pappano.<\/p>\n Gierlach successfully performs concert and oratorio works from the Baroque period to modern times. His artistic output in this field encompasses various renditions of the following works: Saul<\/em> and Elijah<\/em> conducted by Helmuth Rilling, Dvo\u0159\u00e1k’s Stabat Mater<\/em> conducted by J. Kaspszyk in the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, Missa Solemnis<\/em> by Beethoven in Konzerthaus, Berlin, Bach\u2019s Magnificat <\/em>\u00a0in Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, Stabat Mater<\/em>by Rossini with Orquesta del Principado de Asturias in Oviedo, Penderecki\u2019s Dies Irae<\/em> with the Sim\u00f3n Bol\u00edvar Orchestra in Caracas.<\/p>\n In his phonographic output one may also find the recordings of the Pharaoh\u2019s part from Rossini\u2019s Moses in Egypt<\/em>and Douglas from La Donna del Lago<\/em>, as well as Mirteo in Semiramide<\/em> by Meyerbeer conducted by Richard Bonynge (Naxos), Dourlinski in Cherubini’s Lodo\u00efsca<\/em>, Domoslav in L. Spohr’s Der Berggeist<\/em> (LvBAssociation), or the Voivode in Maria <\/em>\u00a0by Statkowski, conducted by \u0141ukasz Borowicz (Polskie Radio).<\/p>\n Gierlach is a laureate of numerous awards and distinctions of various international vocal competitions.
