SŁAWOMIR JURCZAK

Bass-baritone. Jurczak is a graduate of the Department of Vocal and Acting Studies at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw (1986).

Between 1986 and 2017 he was a soloist in the Warsaw Chamber Opera. His repertoire includes many solo parts, for instance in various operas by W.A. Mozart (Sarastro and the Speaker in The Magic Flute, Bartolo in The Marriage of Figaro, Masetto and Leporello in Don Giovanni, Don Alfonso in Cosi fan tutte, Osmin in The Abduction from the Seraglio, Publio in La clemenza di Tito), G. Rossini (Basilio in The Barber of Seville, Alidoro and Don Magnifico in Cinderella, Fernando Villabella in The Thieving Magpie, Haly in The Italian Girl in Algiers), C. M. von Weber (Kuno in The Marksman), J. Stefani (Bardos in Cud, czyli  Krakowiacy i  Górale [The Miracle or the Cracovians and the Highlanders]), as well as other operas by K. Kurpiński, S. Moniuszko, C. Monteverdi, A. Scarlatti, J. Blow, G. F. Handel, H. Purcell, G. B. Lully, G. B. Pergolesi, V. Ullmann, B. Matuszczak and Z. Krauze. Jurczak also performed King Mark’s part in the concert version of Wagner’s Tristan and Iseult.

He works with many ensembles and performers specializing in period music, e.g. W. Kłosiewicz, A. Sapiecha, S. Standag. He actively performs in Poland and abroad. The artist performs also solo parts from oratorios and cantatas by Mozart (Requiem, Coronation Mass (Mass in C major), Mass in C minor), Dvořak (Stabat Mater) and Haydn (Nelson Mass, Paukenmesse, Harmoniemesse, Theresienmesse). He’s also performed on stage in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden, Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Canada, Lebanon, and Japan.

As an assistant director he worked on numerous stagings of Rinaldo, Imeneo and Ariodante by G. F. Handel, Balthazar and Polieukt by Z. Krauze, The Marriage of Figaro by W. A. Mozart  and S. Moniuszko’s  Dziady-Widma.

His artistic output includes many recordings of early music, operas and oratorios (M. Mielczewski – Opera Omnia, S. S. Szarzyński – Opera Omnia, J. Peri – L’Euridice , J. Stefani – Cud, czyli Krakowiacy i górale, A. Dvořak – Stabat Mater, G. F. Handel – Giulio Cesare).

Since 2005 Jurczak has been a teacher in the Frederic Chopin Music School  in Bednarska street in Warsaw.

He was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit for his artistic achievements in 2005.

In the Polish Royal Opera he is a soloist and assistant director.
